New Zealand Blue Duck in rapids
Location: North Island. New Zealand.

From the gallery: Wildfowl
Blue ducks are endemic to New Zealand. They feed on fast flowing rivers where they take invertebrate larvae from the rocks. The bill has soft protective flaps on both mandibles to protect it from damage when foraging in the gravels of the river bottom.
